Art Ensemble of Chicago
The Art Ensemble Of Chicago featured Roscoe Mitchell and Joseph Jarman on saxes, Lester Bowie on trumpet, Malachi Favors on bass and Famoudou Don Moye on drums. Active through the late 60's into the 90's, the band was at the forefront of the avant-garde jazz movement. They pioneered a sound which brought elements of modern Western classical, African music and jazz and its precursors together. In the 70's, the band created the label AECO, releasing solo recordings by individual members. They also recorded the landmark albums "Full Force", "Urban Bushmen" and "The Third Decade" for ECM.
