Sometimes overlooked for his snazzy piano playing, Taylor has helped celebrate jazz on CBS' "Sunday Morning."
Besides his old gig on CBS morning TV, Taylor has also led a jazz show for NPR which can also be found online.
Many musicians adopt the "Dr." prefix but Dr. Taylor actually earned his doctorate at university.
Dr. Billy Taylor is a member of the prestigious National Council of the Arts.
Taylor also runs Jazzmobile, which takes free music directly to the children. The man is a national hero.
