Comment of the Week: Rage Against the Machine and Conventions

Rage Against the Machine’s Lollapalooza set got people talking, but word that the band had scheduled a show in Minnesota during the Republican Convention inspired this from commenter Swingline:

“It just said up there Rage played the DNC in ‘00 and it ended in tear gas and pepper spray. They’re not called Rage Against the Republicans, their gripe is with the whole damn system. Truthfully, if they had a bias AGAINST Republicans, where the hell have they been for the last 8 years?

This is a punk group people, one of the clearest and most defiant voices of the past 20 years, along with PE (good call Conrad). Their job isn’t to heal the world or turn the corrupt into honest.

Sometimes people just want someone to reassure them it’s OK to be skeptical of the world around them, and that’s what Rage, Dylan, Marley and others have provided through the years.”
