While still attending high school, Buddy Miller cut his teeth playing upright acoustic bass for various bluegrass bands. When Miller first moved to New York City in the early 1970s, a young Shawn Colvin sang for one of his old folk bands. Miller played guitar for Jim Lauderdale's and Emmylou Harris' bands long before stepping out to do his own thing.
