As one of the early bands on Lookout! Records, Crimpshrine helped establish what became known as the East Bay Punk sound. Crimpshrine formed in Berkeley in 1986. They got their name from a hairstyle of a fellow Berkeley High School student. Aaron Cometbus, the mind behind Cometbus fanzine, wrote many of Crimpshrine's songs. Aaron Cometbus has since been in a number of great bands, including Pinhead Gunpowder and Cleveland Bound Death Sentence. Crimpshrine tried to tour the U.S. in a Pinto, but it broke down; they got stuck in Florida and never made it home as a band.
