With their soulful hits "I Wonder Why," and "A Teengager In Love," Dion and the Belmonts helped put Bronx on the Doo-Wop map. Dion and the Belmonts helped popularize Doo Wop, as many radio stations wouldn't play music by black musicians. Frontman of the Belmonts, Dion went solo in 1960. Through the decade he became a leading Teen Idol then a folk superstar.
