This grandmaster of the Hollywood musical was also an innovator behind the camera. His warm vocal style still offers comfort. Kelly strove to make dancing atheletic and appealing to sports-loving American males. Along with Stanley Donen and Vincente Minnelli, Kelly created the modern American movie musical. Please don't hold Gene Kelly responsible for the roller disco musical "Xanadu," he only played a small part in it. Kelly gave dancing lessons to friend and co-star Frank Sinatra and received vocal pointers in kind.
