1960s guitar hero Mike Bloomfield is famous for his playing on the first two Butterfield Blues band albums and on Bob Dylan's Highway 61 Revisited. He formed the Electric Flag with drummer Buddy Miles and bass player Harvey Brooks, with the idea of starting a band who combined rock, blues, Soul and jazz and incorporated a large horn section. Bloomfield executed this well before Blood, Sweat and Tears and Chicago appeared (both bands had resounding success with the formula). The group recorded one highly acclaimed record before Bloomfield, the de facto leader of the group, left.
