Gene Ammons

Ammons' richly melodic tenor sax style helped to establish soul and blues jazz, and was widely studied by other players.
Gene's father was Albert Ammons, the piano player.
Ammons spent most of the 1960s in jail for narcotics-related offenses and then died of cancer in 1974. Tough life.
