Georg Philipp Telemann

Musique > Classique > Georg Philipp Telemann

During the first half of the eighteenth century, Georg Philipp Telemann was considered Germany's greatest living composer. Teleman began to study law, but once the city of Leipzig recognized his talent, he became a professional composer. Telemann was based in Hamburg, Germany, for much of his composing life, though he did travel extensively. Without any formal musical education, Telemann taught himself to play at least five different instruments. Telemann was the godfather of Bach's son Carl Philipp Emanuel.
