Single Minded: Britney Spears, Dr. Dre and Fleet Foxes

Britney Spears, “Womanizer” [Benny Benassi Club Mix]
When we first heard about this song, we thought it was Britney who was the womanizer. So then when we heard the actual song, it was a tiny bit disappointing. This icy remix makes questions like that even more irrelevant.

Dr. Dre featuring Eminem, “Forgot About Dre” [Morsy Mix]
You know who forgot about Dre? Dre. We want to believe we will see Detox in a terrestrial record store, and not as some kind of hologram we pay $10 to have beamed directly into our frontal lobe — and if Axl can, anyone can. But the fifth straight year our mom promised us that 10-speed to no avail, we kinda stopped believing her, too.

Friendly Fires, “I’m Good, I’m Gone” [Lykke Li Cover]
So it’s safe to say that you probably won’t have heard of Friendly Fires unless you’ve heard of Lykke Li, which makes their decision to cover one of her songs something like Andrew Bujalski doing a shot-for-shot remake of Stranger Than Paradise. But, of course, we’d be into that too.

Fleet Foxes, “White Winter Hymnal” [Black Dominoes Remix]
Maybe one of the most appropriately-named songs ever. It’s like we can feel our teeth chattering while we listen to this. Of course, our landlord still hasn’t turned our heat on. So it might be that. Perhaps Black Dominoes can come over and give our apartment a dance beat. It might help.

BGM, “Little Red Corvette” [Prince Cover]
Now here’s something odd: aspiring singer/songwriter recasts Prince’s “Little Red Corvette” as a Johnny Cash song. Immediately after recording this, his views on abortion and gay marriage were misquoted by the New Yorker.
