Producer Martin Hannett comes on board here, which makes sense since Magazine helped define the post-punk sound that led to Joy Division. At the same time, this excellent platter also illustrates the band's similarities to early Talking Heads -- the scratchy paranoia, the stinging guitar lines and jerky rhythms, as well as their unsettling cover of Sly Stone's "Thank You."
