Maurice Chevalier was a French entertainer (1888-1972). His gifts for comedy led him to the Folies-Bergère and a silent film debut in 1908. He served in WWI and was a POW. He returned to film after the war and re-located to Hollywood. In an interesting twist of fate, Chevalier was accused as a Nazi collaborator and vindicated for performing in the occupied zone. He was also blacklisted in the United States for signing a nuclear anti-proliferation appeal. He was nominated for best actor in "The Love Parade" and won an honorary Oscar in 1959. He is best known for "Thank Heaven for Little Girls".
