A laid-back mic-rocker out of Brooklyn, Mos Def is admired for his smooth flow and socially conscious lyricism. Mos Def made early appearance on albums by the Bush Babees and De La Soul. Mos Def is one-half of Black Star with Talib Kweli. He also fronts a rock band called Jack Johnson. During Al Gore's MTV appearance, a member of the audience offered Mos' CD as an example of positive hip-hop. Mos Def also has an acting career. He's appeared in ads for Sprite and American Express, and Spike Lee's "Bamboozled."
