Born in Punjab in 1926, Noor Jehan became a singing star in the Bombay film industry in the 1940s. 1941's Urdu-language film "Khandaan" established Jehan as a huge box office draw in both India and Pakistan. Jehan's rendition of "Aahen Na Bharen Shikve Na Karen" in "Zeenat" is credited with introducing qawaali to Hindi films. Jehan was also Pakistan's first female film director. She directed the 1951 film "Chan Ve."
