Although overstating the connection between grunge and surf music with tracks from Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden, this surfing-documentary soundtrack mixes standbys such as Link Wray's "Rumble" and Dick Dale's "Misirlou" with more imaginative choices, such as the Ruts' still-timely punk-era cut "Babylon's Burning," to effectively convey the unpredictable rush of hanging ten. Choice oddity: Screamin' Jay Hawkins' atypically blissful "Makaha Waves."
