The Zooma Tour, from the organizers of the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival, will kick off on June 16th in Camden, New Jersey, and wrap up on July 31st in Quincy, Washington. In addition to headliners Trey Anastasio and Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, up to twenty-five guest acts will rotate throughout the many stages, including Black Keys, Medeski Martin and Wood, Gomez, Toots and the Maytals, Jurassic 5, G. Love and Special Sauce and Ray LaMontagne.
"I saw Ben for the first time at Bonnaroo a couple of years ago," says former Phish frontman Anastasio. "He's a great singer and an amazing guitarist. I'm really looking forward to being on the road with him this summer."
"We've been looking forward to doing shows with Trey for a long time," Harper counters. "I also look forward to seeing a lot of great music on the second stage."
Zooma will allow Anastasio to take a break from the fall release he's currently completing, tentatively titled Seventy Volt Parade. The new collection of songs appears to mark a return to his rock & roll roots, after Phish's breakup last year.
"We had forty employees who had to move out of the Phish office -- the whole thing was shutting down," says Anastasio. "Suddenly I just felt like singing and playing the guitar again. Maybe the process was rediscovering who I am, which is basically a guitar player." The album features keyboardist Ray Paczkowski, from Anastasio's prior solo rock project, and a cameo from Phish bassist Mike Gordon. Anastasio will be testing out new material with the Zooma crowd.
Tickets for the majority of Zooma's dates go on sale May 7th and 14th.
