Single Minded: The Killers, Nirvana and Bobby Brown

The Killers, “Human” [13 Remixes]
13 remixes of the first single from the Killers’ Day & Age, none of which can answer the timeless question: human or dancer? Or Prancer? Or Vixen? The world demands — nay, deserves — an answer.

Nirvana, “Swap Meet” [Diplo Remix]
For the video game Motorstorm, Diplo achieves the dubious — and, in some states, criminal — feat of making Nirvana sound like Drowning Pool. More compression! More electronic rhythms! If only Diplo remixes had the opposite effect: We could send him a stack of Pussycat Dolls singles and they’d come out sounding like Kate Bush. Think of the possibilities!

Various Artists, James Bond Themes [Covers]
For the last few days, the Fong Songs blog has been delivering covers of various James Bond themes. We find the existence of many of these astonishing, but compelling nonetheless. It’s like, having a famous fictional character played by a series of different actors, each one of them bringing something different to the table. We’ll leave it to you to figure out which of these artists is the George Lazenby of the bunch.

Ol’ Dirty Bastard, “Brooklyn Zoo” [Live]
We can’t figure out what we love more: the image of a tweaked-out ODB ushered on stage by three beautiful women or the image of a pre-Daily Show Jon Stewart delivering the enthusiastic introduction. If only Ol’ Dirty had stuck around, perhaps he and Stewart could have followed similar career arcs. Because, we’d totally watch a show where ODB interviewed Peggy Noonan.

Bobby Brown, “My Perogative” [Breakdown Remix]
We’d have preferred “Humpin’ Around” but, you know, beggars, choosers, etc.
